What is InDesign // you ask?

In the first 'official' class of the year (last being the introductory class) we were introduced to one of the main applications that we will be working on for the year. Now that application that was mentioned before is called Adobe InDesign. Although I come from a background where I have had experience with using this app, there are still a few things that I found very useful with this lecture that will be used in future projects that I will be commencing.

First we went into the more theoretical side to what Adobe InDesign is and what it could be useful for. It is now the main basis in using your desktop or computer to publish and print media, be it printed or digital; and is 2D publishing software that is utilised industry wise that allows for a creative approach in content. This application comes under the Creative Cloud, which is all the Adobe products under one place. The greatest benefit to having Creative Cloud is that anything created, work in-sync with each other and can easily be transferred from one application to the other so that workflow can be much easier.

The main feature for InDesign include:
  • Importing text, images, logos and much more on a page
  • Its page size differs from pure web design
  • Typography is possible due to the ability to manipulate types
  • Working with boxes on a page allows for movability and spacial awareness
With this information in mind, we were asked to try it out ourselves. Doing the basics like finding how to make shapes, adding text, including images, changing colours and so much more. The main idea for this was to help us gather the information and get used to the layout of InDesign for our next work.
