Fonts // Typography

Well this blog will be talking about Fonts, or if you want the more "professional" way of describing it, Typography. Fonts are basically words on digital platforms, seems easy enough right?...

Actually no. There is so much that goes into the pixels on an image or screen and all new information given to me will be explained here too. For example: the first point I would like to explain is that there are 2 types of styles for fonts, the first being Serif and the other being Sans Serif. What are they? Simple. Serif are Fonts that come with a STROKE or FEET at the end of each stem. And the Sans Serif fonts are those fonts without a stroke (Psst 'Sans' is French for 'without').

Example for a Serif Font called "Martel":

Another thing is that fonts are not measured in millimetres, centimetres, inches or even pixels, but they are measured in POINTS. I never really did question the reasoning for this, but the curiosity did come over me. It turns out that points show the height of the lettering to differentiate between other measurements to show the spaces between lines.

Now it is up to designers and creative people to manipulate Fonts to their advantage. There are ways to setting moods with these fonts by changing what you do with it. Using colour, spacing, font family and so much more will make any piece of work you do stand out way more. A little experimenting is better than keeping things simplistic. Well, now you know this, go be creative. Have fun.
